Let's talk sustainability.
I know when I hear this word, my mind instantly wanders to David Attenborough's A Life on Our Planet (as he is a guru when it comes to environmentalists). Most of us will remember the bush forest fires in Australia at the start of last year, the Great Pacific Garbage Patch and the big issue surrounding plastic pollution. Sustainability has recently become a massive talking point and gained an increased amount of attention. Whether you're a fast fashion chain, a food manufacturer or an airline company, all eyes are on you.
So let's jump into sustainability when it comes to Pan-n-Ice.
The real question you may be asking yourself is: What’s tastier than Pan-n-Ice ice cream rolls? Pan-n-Ice ice cream rolls that are made and served in a sustainable way!
Over at Pan-n-Ice, one of our main missions is to BE KIND. Not only does this apply to each other, but also to the planet and environment in which we live. Luckily, the awareness and attention directed towards the damage happening around us is ever increasing, resulting in more brands and companies taking charge of their unsustainable practices in order to do better by our planet.
Look, we are not saying we are perfect, far from it, and we have a long way to go but we want to take every step we can to become better and do right by the environment. We want to ensure we are doing everything we can to become more sustainable and protect the world around us. The DIY kits (hopefully you have one of these already sitting at home in your freezer ready to make hundreds of bubba ice cream rolls) come in completely recyclable packaging. So that box that keeps your pan safe and sound whilst it is travelling to you can be flattened down and put into your blue bin ready for recycling! Oh, and you know those little pink cups that your ice cream rolls sit in, well guess what? They are also recyclable - just give them a little wash out and off they go to be recycled!
Now, let’s talk about our events. As we doubt you’ll want to use your DIY pan to cater for over 50 people you’ve got coming round for your aunt’s 30th birthday. We’re proud to offer more sustainable serving options for our clients’ events, corporate gigs, and parties. Our cups and spoons are completely biodegradable, as well as supplying these at every single one of our parlours. Any products leftover from our events are taken back to the office to be distributed to new events, rather than sent straight to landfill, and because we make our ice cream fresh to order and make one portion per person, this means all our ice cream is typically waste-free! We mean, what’s not to love?
So, If you’re reading this and are an eco-minded ice cream lover, there’s no need to look any further, we are the brand for you! We know that we still have a little way to go to become completely sustainable, but we are doing what we can to get there and create a greener future! After all, being environmentally friendly makes you almost as cool as ice cream does.
Enough about us, this part is to all of our bubbas, we’ve come up with some ways you can join us in creating a beautiful future for our baby bubbas, family and friends to live in. Don’t worry, you aren’t going to have to chuck everything unrecyclable out and start from scratch, just add some little changes into your daily routine to help out. In the words of Tesco, Every Little Helps! In fact, we asked some of our bubbas for suggestions of how to live a more sustainable lifestyle and here is what they came up with:
Stay informed: We’re lucky enough to have loads of information at our fingertips thanks to the internet. So it doesn’t take too much effort to learn about environmental issues and what we can do to help fix them. The more clued up we are about these things, the better equipped we are to talk about them and inspire our friends to help too.
Speak up: You matter! And so does your voice. If enough people speak up and ask for change, then the right people will hear and eventually they’ll have to take action. Talk to your local MP and ask them what they’re doing for the environment. Speak to your favourite brands and ask where they source their materials. Be sure to talk to your friends and followers on social media too. Awareness is the first step towards action.
Travel responsibly: Transport causes a lot of nasty pollution, especially in the UK. Every time you’re about to get in a car in search of ice cream rolls, ask yourself: Could I walk or cycle instead? Even catching the bus or a train is a much greener alternative to driving a car. So try to cut your carbon footprint when it’s possible.
Recycle and try not to be wasteful: Recycling is majorly important, since most things that aren’t recyclable end up in a landfill site or the ocean. Always try to buy things that come in recyclable packaging. It’s also worth considering how you could recycle packaging yourself. For example, jam jars make great candleholders and tin cans make funky little plant pots! Use a Bag for Life or a canvas tote bag when you shop for groceries. Don’t buy bottles of water and carry a flask instead, say no to plastic straws with your take-away drink, and try to stop using those little plastic coffee stirrers where possible.
Let’s try to be kinder to Mother Earth – after all, she’s the biggest bubba of all!
